Five Things to Remember About Bathroom Remodeling in Miami-Dade & Broward
- In Miami – Dade County, you are going to need to get at least three permits before your bathroom remodeling project proceeds
- One permit for the electrical
- Another for the plumbing
- Yet another for the structure
If your home is at least 10 years old don’t accept any quick fixes for your bathroom remodel such as tub liners. You will probably need to gut the bathroom any way so you might as well spend the little extra to do the job right.
You can prevent mold and mildew easily by adding a little extra money to the vent system in your bathroom. This will include installing a high quality vent fan and make sure it is vented outside. This little extra step is above code but will pay for itself.
If you plan on moving your tub to different area in the room or installing a soaker or jetted tub, make sure the floor structure can support the extra load.
If you are in your fifties, you probably won’t have to do another remodeling job. Now is the time to think ahead. As we get older there may come a time for extra security in the bathroom like hand rails in the tub or shower. Extra room between the commode and the walls for walkers or wheelchairs. Extra GCFI outlets near the toilet and tub. This is for any needed medical supplies such as oxygen. You don’t have to install all of them right now, except maybe the outlets. Just make sure the walls have added support in the walls big enough to handle the handrails when the time comes. This also includes your flooring if you are installing tile or natural stone. Be sure you get non-slip.
